Tent Camping On A NE US Beach?

August 23rd, 2009 | by admin |

Looking for a shaded ocean beach location to tent camp this summer. Must be in Northeastern US, within a day’s drive of the Baltimore MD area. Must be shaded and preferably a quiet and secluded location. Can be public or privately owned. Not looking for a "tourist attraction" type beach, more of a laid back and quiet location.

Well, it may be a little bit of a longer drive than you are looking for (look it up on a map and find out), but you should try Okracoke Island at the Outer Banks. It is reachable by a ferry from hatteras island or from Swan Quarter, NC. Once you are on the small island, there are two campgrounds, one shaded in the village, and one with minimal shade right on the beach just over the sand dunes. It is a quiet beach, and because it is so undeveloped, the Travel channel has rated it as the second most beautiful beach in America on more than one occasion.

How about False Cape, VA. About four, and half hours away. Or Kiptopeke State Park.
