Road trip up the east coast this coming summer. Any suggestions of cities, places, etc. to see?

Hi! My boyfriend and I are looking to take a road trip up the east coast this summer. We are from Michigan, and were pretty much just planning on driving east till we hit the ocean, and then going north:) No plans in particular. I was hoping someone could give us some ideas/advice about where to go, what to see, etc… Somethings we know we’d like to do, visit Boston, DC, as many coastal towns as possible, and Northern Maine. Also, we may be interested in going to Montreal. We are not in to the "club scene" so much, but like diverse cities, with great places to eat and drink. We also like to fish, and love the outdoors. Any great mountainous regions to camp?? Any and every suggestions would be very appreciated! Thanks.

Ogunquit, Maine, is beautiful. It has a mile-long path that winds along the cliffs on the ocean, and cute little places to shop and eat. I’ve been there twice and it’s a wonderful experience. You can also go on a deep-sea fishing expedition, which is also a lot of fun.

In the north is boston, and a few hours away is a ben & Jerry’s factory in vermont. Going down is NYC, Philidelphia, D.C, Baltimore, Richmond, Norfolk Raleigh, Charlotte, Charleston, Atlanta, Panama City, Orlando, Miami. I live near D.C., there is lots to do in north, & Orlando has fun. Hilton Head Island & Ocean city are nice beaches
