Looking for central-CA camping location for Labor Day?
September 8th, 2009 | by admin |I need help finding a lesser-known camp ground for Labor Day weekend. We wanted to camp either Yosemite or Sequoia National Forest, but as you probably know they are fully booked most of the summer already, and most certainly during LD Weekend.
I don’t nkow a whole lot about California camping so I really need help choosing a good place to go. We want to fish, hike, and swim (lake or ocean) and we plan to stay 2-3 nights. It would be nice to have bathroom facilities nearby.
Thanks for any recommendations you might have!
You might try lake Pinecrest. It will fill up too, but perhaps not a quickly. Its not "roughing it" camping, its a campground with lake etc. Very nice spot though.
Or Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Great hiking though a Sequoia forrest. You can swim in the river not far away, if the water is not too low.
You’ll want to check into reservations either way. Both of these are North of Yosemite, so are perhaps too far away. They are up the hill from Modesto or Stockton whereas it sounds like you live nearer to Fresno. But its the best I can do for you.
