How can I stop being so lazy and get some exercise/focus?

November 13th, 2009 | by admin |

I’m 16 years old and it’s not that I need to lose weight or anything (I’m actually quite skinny), I just don’t have a lot of energy these days because it’s summer and I’ve been staying up late and sleeping until noon, and when I wake up I’m just not motivated to do anything because I don’t have plans until nighttime usually. I’m on the gymnastics team at school but I’m not taking lessons at the moment because they’re expensive and I’m not a serious gymnast. I live near the beach so I know that swimming in the ocean with my sisters would be easy exercise, but I just find myself to be so lazy! I came home from camp almost 2 weeks ago and we would play sports but you don’t find many teen girls participating in organized sports outside of a league and for fun around here. I need motivation to get off my ass but can’t find it! I’m starting to feel gross and unhealthy. I hang out with friends and have a job, but in the meanwhile I’m watching movies at home while the beautiful weather outside passes by. :/

Things that make us change are centered around pain and pleasure. You still associate pleasure with being lazy and not following through.
You are only beginning to focus on the pain of being unhealthy. But as you become more overwhelmed with your lack of motivation, you increase your anxiety which leads to depression. This happens when you are too focused on yourself and have no cares and worries. It is also a part of your nature. Whom you are.

In life you will get what you focus on. The more you focus on how unhealthy you feel, how lazy you are, your lack of motivation, that is exactly what you will get.

The secret to motivation is to just get off you a** and do it. Decide what you want. How you want ot look. What health benefits you need, what skills you should develop and develop you own personal plan or copy some one elses.

Set an alarm and give your self x amount of time on a daily basis to get it done. Get a friend, a parent or anyone of whom you can get to hold you accountable. It works best to have a buddy.

You are 16 and if you can not motivate yourself by now, well then, Life just get much harder.

Plus there are lots of fat skinny people out there. Many are more unhealthy than over weight people.

At 16 I think you can figure out what the answer to your question is. You already answered it. Depressed, lazy, low activity breeds that same lazy mindset. Push yourself to get active.

one thing that you could do is grab your camera and head outside. take at least a 30 min walk and snap some really cool shots of whatever you come across. Or grab your fav music and just walk to see what you can see.

I would start getting up fairly early, same time every day. that boosts energy. Drink more water, eat a more balanced diet.. all those things increase energy and when you have a will to exercise and lots of energy, voila you have a healthy lifestyle.

    Hiya,
don’t set aims/goals because nobody can be bothered to reach them. Just try and be more reasonable with yourself, think of the other side and how good the turnout will be!

if this advice does not help im not sure what to say!
    just keep trying!

Why don’t you push yourself to get up no later than 8 AM and go for a short walk. If you sleep until noon most of the day is wasted. Get some exercise in the morning or during the day but not at night as that will keep you up later. Go out and do something for someone else who could use some help like walk a dog, keep an elderly neighbor company or something like that. If you have a purpose, other than yourself, you will feel more motivated.

Then just get up. simple as that. When you hand out with friends, go for a walk, a bike ride. You live next to the beach, go exploring near the tide pools or something. you dont have to do anything extreme or mind boggling, just get up and move around to start. After that, you can move onto something a little more active.
Also, start getting up earlier. That will really boost your energy if you have 7-8 hours of sleep a night.. even 6 will leave you uppity and ready to do something.
Start small, and work your way up. If you feel that your getting sluggish and unhealthy, change your ways.
Id recommend going out when your with friends. Walk around town or on the beach. try not to be so sedimentary.

Get off your BUTT, stop whining on yahoo, and get your ass outside for a run. SUCK IT UP! Who cares if you don’t see any girls playing sports. Personally I think thats a poor excuse. You just aren’t looking in the right places. By all means, sit on your couch and get fat. Merry Christmas you flipping whiner.
