Is it easy to find availability at camper-van parks at Great Ocean Road, without booking in advance?

September 10th, 2009 | by admin |

I’m doing a 3 day trip of GOR in a camper-van. I have a general idea of where I’ll be spending the night, but I would like to have the flexibility of pushing farther or staying back depending on how the trip plays out. Is it easy to just pop into a camper park and find sites available? Or is it necessary to book in advance?

As long as you are not planning to do this in school holidays (particularly summer holidays) you should be able to get accommodation in a caravan park of your choice. If you do go in school holidays without booking then there will be limited or no accommodation as it is a very popular holiday destination.

For this time of year, you should find somewhere fairly easily.
Keep in mind that its school holidays in about 3 weeks time, so if that is when you were intending to be travelling, booking ahead would probably be a good idea.

I wouldn’t book anything. I did the GOR during the summer which is the busiest time, and i didn’t book any caravan parks in advance. I just turned up and there was always a place. in some extreme cases it was as late as 10pm.. not recommended, but they still let us in, gave us a place and charged in the morning when the office was open.
