Katina, where is the calculus? these are trig questions. but I will attempt to answwer them anyway.
if you scketch this you get:

1830-1480 = 350 m North
1280 m East
is what the second cyclist has to cover when heading directly towards the camp at an angle whose tangent = 350/1280
so heading is 15.29 degrees north of East.
for a distance of :
1280²+350²=D²
√(1280²+350²)= D
D ≈ 1327 m

2. The distance to horizon = DH
Earths radius = rE
DH²+rE²=(rE+1.9)²
DH²=(rE+1.9)² - rE²
DH = √[(6.37 x 10⁶+1.9)² - (6.37 x 10⁶)²]
DH ≈ 4920 m
References :
You do not need calculus to solve these 2 questions

Tips: Draw diagram and it will become easier to see
References :
heres a thought..... re read the text book.... conclude your answer from what you read.... you can not learn the material if you do not take the time to study it. Comprehension and Astute attention makes a better Student.
