Why do people feel the need to shove religion on other people

September 27th, 2009 | by admin |

I’m pretty sure all of us can agree that religion is one of the biggest arguments of the world. My question is, why do people feel the need to try to ‘MAKE’ others believe the same as them? Some people like to call these people " Bible thumpers ". Strange. But I mean, why does everyone have to be the same? Why can’t different people have different religions? Personally, I don’t have a religion. But I’ve had tons of people try to convince me that what they think is right, and nothing else. And when it comes to schools…wow. I was at camp and this little girl named Ocean told me that at her school , all books written by athiests are banned, and if a kid brings a book written by an athiest they have it confiscated and don’t give it back for the rest of the year. I mean, public schools don’t bann books written by christians and other religions, so why the other way around? I remember when I was little, this girl who was my friend, (in kindergarden) told me that I HAD to belive in god, or I’d go to hell. This was when we were FOUR. Obviously her parents had told her this but why tell them this when they’re so young and likley to say it to other kids and possibly get themselves in trouble.
I’m just wondering why some people are so afraid when others don’t belive in what they do.
I understand 0 to encourage your beliefs.
And in no way was this question put out to offend anyone, so I’m sorry if you feel that way.
What’re your opinions?
To the person with the name "…………"
: I am, in no way doing the same thing. I never once said " nobody should belive in god".

And to anyone else who thinks I’m saying that I dislike christians or other religions, that’s not what I was saying at all. I have TONS of friends of all different cultures and religions. I don’t judge people by their colour, nor what they belive in. I only dislike people when they have done something personal to hurt me in some sort of way.
Mckenziecalhoun, I quite agree with you that there are athiests who do the same.
Once again guys, I never said a specific religion did this, and I’m quite aware that athiests do the same thing, and hate on people for beliving in what they do, which is so wrong.
Oh, and just so all of you know. I once did belive in god. Sadly, I lost my belief, the same way I stopped beliving in Santa, the easter bunny, and the tooth fairy. I went to this kids church program where we learnt about god in a fun way. We had snacks, played games, and games hat related to god. Like the trust blanket, where we got in it and the others would throw us up and we’d all say that we trusted god to let us have a safe landing. I use to love it. And now there is no way I will fall backwards off a picnic table into a blanket. They tried to make me do it at the summer camp I went to, and I was nearly in tears from trying to tell them " no thankyou, I’m too scared". Maybe I lost my trust along with the belief, but who knows. Maybe I stopped beleiving because I was angry, about things that happened in my family. Also, the pressure of being in a house full of athiests might have done it. My grandma always asks me if I stopped beleiving because of her, and says she’s sorry if so.

I – as a Christian – have always tried to be ‘nice’ about sharing the gospel with other people………The only time I will really witness to someone is if they ask me about my salvation……….I try to tell people about the Saviour — if they aren’t interested in it — I drop it……….

God Bless…………

who is shoving this is a religious section.

When a person goes before judgment day no one will be able to say, "well no one ever told me, so how could i have known."

Ezekiel 3 16 After seven days the Lord gave me a message. He said, 17 “Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, warn people immediately. 18 If I warn the wicked, saying, ‘You are under the penalty of death,’ but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. And I will hold you responsible for their deaths. 19 If you warn them and they refuse to repent and keep on sinning, they will die in their sins. But you will have saved yourself because you obeyed me.

20 “If righteous people turn away from their righteous behavior and ignore the obstacles I put in their way, they will die. And if you do not warn them, they will die in their sins. None of their righteous acts will be remembered, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths. 21 But if you warn righteous people not to sin and they listen to you and do not sin, they will live, and you will have saved yourself, too.”

If I say, "everything is fine. Let’s all be happy and do what we want. Yaaay, sparkly sunshine and rose gardens!" I wouldn’t be doing you any favors. Put your life jacket on, get ready to jump, this ship is going down.

I can’t believe how much people don’t get it.

It isn’t because we are insecure, or trying to convince ourselves by converting others. That has absolutely nothing to do with it. It doesn’t even make sense. We aren’t even trying to win a fancy prize. It is because without Jesus, we will die. You will die. It will be like you never existed. Some people have resolved that is their fate no matter what. But there is an alternative, and it is so easy to accept.
Think about this. What did Noah preach for 120 years?
That complete destruction was coming, right? BUT, the people hadn’t even SEEN rain before, and yet this "God" was going to make it "rain" and destroy all of the wicked?
To some, that was too much. Maybe they were sort of convinced, but didn’t want to look foolish. Whatever the reason though, all they would have had to do was get on the boat. THAT IS IT. But when the door was shut, time was up. How awful do you think Noah felt when no one but his family listened? It was so easy for them to accept, but they refused and had chosen to face the consequences.
People may have been a little irritated that he had been pushing his religion on them for 120 years, but when the rain started to fall, they were wishing they had listened. Why hadn’t they simply gone in? The door had been wide open!!
The Bible says that just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man.
There is a time to make a decision. The door is still open. Christ is calling you to come into a relationship with Him. It will save you. You don’t want to be left out. WE don’t want you to be left out.

The Christians have been brainwashed to think that being clones of each other and being good little slaves is a good thing. THAT is why they do it.

maybe they love their religion, so much, that their zeal drives them to spread that which they love to others. But, the thing is, that can sometimes lead them to go too far and overstep their bounds, and offend others, or do some accidental toe-stepping, so to speak.

I was told the same thing as that girl when I was young. But my Dad was smart enough to tell me not to say that to people. Some religious people know not to force religion. It doesn’t do any good.

"Recruitment" is one of the duties of Christians. In fact, some people are thought to have been given the gift of recruitment which means it is their calling to teach/talk to others about their religion.

As far as Muslims and other large religious groups I am positive they have the same philosophy.

In other words, religion was always meant to be spread. The "shoving" comes from those who get too zealous about their ‘duties’.

Sounds like you have had some bad experiences with "Christians" and it makes sense that you feel the way you do; I can relate.

I have found that people who are indoctrinated in the church, from a young age, with more judgment and condemnation rather than hearing about the love of God. They repeat what they have learned and it’s not easy to break out of that indoctrination and explore other religions/beliefs for fear of being "deceived."

Have you ever noticed that the kids in school who brag about their promiscuity, substance abuse, or ill-gotten gain brag to impressionable kids about it? If you lisen long enough, you will hear that they are really saying, "I had a good time doing thus and so. You believe that, don’t you? If you’lll believe it, I’ll believe it. Come on tell me I believe it!" Just like Christians. "I’m really happier being a Christian. You believe that, don’t you.? If you’ll believe it, I’ll believe it. You believe it, don’t you?"

You seem to have blinders on.

Soviet Russia, millions die to end religion and dissent.
Communist China, millions die to end religion and dissent.

Seems that those who talk about religion shoving their beliefs down the throats of others seem to forget how often atheists have tried to do the same, with DEADLY effect.

Sorry, this is a very biased question.

I’m not religious. Just not biased.

I believe in God but I do not support any religion in any way. I grow so tired of religions hating other religions through violence and propaganda. One religion always thinks they are better than the next religion. I cannot stand the idea of someone trying to convince me to go to their church or join their religion because it is the right way to the Lord.
I don’t push my interests off on others and I don’t understand why these door to door idiots cannot get that into their heads either. How would they like it if I started trying to shove my interest in firearms on them? Or my mechanical interests? They’d end up walking off and ignoring me. Many of them don’t care what you have to say unless it benefits them and their church.
I believe that when they go door to door they really aren’t interested in saving anyone, just getting more members and revenues for their church.
There is a big difference between faith and religion. I have faith only and no room for religion at all.

In the case of Christians. Their belief is that only those who believe in Jesus Christ make to heaven. Furthermore, Jesus told his disiples to go forth and spread the good news. So modern Christians in their love for man kind want to save you. Also they feel that Jesus has commanded them to do so.

I think people try to convert people because they care about other people in general. So the point is saving people for the sake of God and that these newly saved people will get to have a real relationship with God and have a better life here and then go on to heaven. That is the whole thing in a nutshell. At least this is the reasoning in Christianity.

Now when people try to force their religion down anothers throat, I believe these are strange people that do not understand God at all. Because this only pushes people away from God in the end.

Only religion, or beliefs in general? Where do you draw the line?

Isn’t there an implicit world view within your question? A belief, right or wrong that people shouldn’t ’shove’ beliefs.

How are these people ’shoving’? I understand some of your examples though.

One problem with anyone’s particular agenda, and we all, ALL, have them, is the need to force the others.

Take what some would have us believe of Islam (true or not) . The tactics these individual use are, ‘definitive’.

If what they profess is so true, and so great, then why do they have to kill me to get me to believe it?

Would God want this type of ‘belief’ ? It isn’t belief at all.

    Ditto the ‘no offense’.

Some one can not make you believe. They can not shove people to think that their religion is real. They can tell you about their religion. They can tell you the dark paths you will take if you don’t believe in their religion. They can tell you about their religion but that is it.
Everyone does this to please their god or beliefs. I don’t understand why you don’t have a religion. I know it’s one of the biggest issues in most country’s. It has issues with schools. But do you want to live life that way. Thinking when you die you die.
Lot’s of people believe that God Jehovah is real. You know why? They have faith why can’t you have faith in a religion? So what if religions are banned from others as long as you believe and trust in it.
I would not just say one day oh I’m gonna be a Muslim because everyone eles is. Believe in something that means to you.

The God Yahweh of the Bible gave His people the choice of either following His new Mosaic Laws or He would kill them. After killing many the rest learned the hard way to follow them. This is how these laws lasted the test of time. The United States of America’s judicial laws have been modeled from the beginning of this country after these same Mosaic Laws of the God Yahweh. That is why this country’s way of thinking has mimicked Yahweh’s when it comes to subjects like homosexuality and atheism. The fear of God is still instilled in most people of this country till this day of what He will do to us if we don’t follow His laws. Which should still be in order for this country to remain the greatest country in the world for a human to live. Because the day this country turns its’ back on Yahweh will be the day Yahweh allows this country to fall. Wake up people of America to this fact and let us keep this from happening, which it will.

One day, judgement day will come…either hell or heaven will be the destination of us all. It’s thru COMPASSION for others to want to spread the Good News of the Gospel so none of us see the place called HELL.

Its unfortunate for those who really force religion down peoples’ throats..cuz thats not how it should be done. Jesus will return once the Gospel has been heard from all the 4 corners of the earth. Hear it and give it a chance before you just reject it….

If God is worried that his message isn’t getting around enough, why not send down another messenger or two? It couldn’t hurt.

Seems like a pretty lazy diety that makes his devout followers recruit for him.

I wonder if atheists are always here asking questions because they are just restless. The spirit naturally cries for it’s Creator, if it’s deprived it’s restless, and the person doesn’t even know why until they feed their spirit.
