my short story is what?
September 23rd, 2009 | by admin |We were out on the boat for days when we suddenly saw land. There were 4 of us in all and we were on a pleasure cruise that was supposed to be a 5 hour trip.We sailed for a mile or so when we came to its shore.I said we needed to get our supplies off of the ship and anchor our boat.I along with Anita,Juanita, and Jules decided to explore the isle in all of its splendor. We were on a vacation from our hectic work schedules.
Well we our not too far from the next island i said but where we are really is another question.I know were in the bahamas somewhere.I checked our compass and we sailed due east but arrived on the wrong island. Our radio was out for about 3 hours now.Cmon guys i said as we headed to look for others. We came to a large dock on the isle and were met by a guy who said that we needed to leave and were trespassing. We are stranded here said anita and jules and the rest of us agreed. Can we have some time here i asked him?Yes but you must leave soon he shouted. Why so soon i asked him?Theres danger here and you are unwary travellers said he.
All who have visited here have died! What kind of danger i asked?Just never mind that said he.We were met by another man who said that if we didnt leave wed be in trouble and hed tell us what if we left.Theres a mist from the ocean every afternoon at 5pm and its a ghostly apparition of all of the sailors who have died around these parts. They come looking for fresh vessels to wreck as its part of their heritage.I said it sounded like a couple of movies i might have seen in a way.Leave at once said he or face danger from every turn as he slowly walked away.He was about 50 and wore a straw hat and had on bermuda shorts and boat shoes. He had been living here all of his life he remarked so he was accustomed to these supernatural forces beyond the sands and the tides
.Why 5 i said to him politely?Thats the time the ships captain supposedly drowned he said sternly! Its the fault of the other boat that wasnt paying attention at the helm and crashed into the ship he was in charge of.We ate our lunch which consisted of sandwiches and doritos and sodas. We talked a good while about the isle and its folklore and maybe it wasnt a myth as we were being told this.Lets get going shall we said Juanita.Ok im with you said Jules and we followed suit.As we were making our way towards our boat the sea whipped up in a frenzy and the sky grew dark.We saw the gigantic ghost of a fisherman rising from the north and its spirit was about 200 feet away.We cant leave now i said. But we got to said Anita and i said no way as that things waiting to smash our ship into pieces any moment. We waited about 5 minutes and it disappeared so we made our move for it.
We sailed hurriedly away from the isle and then we saw the ghost again ahead of us.What do we do now i whispered to Jules who was picking his nose?We go the other way he cried! I remembered that these ghosts were only concerned with your ship and that each time they got one it spared the life of another sailor who otherwise would perish at sea according to the islander. So we all got into our tiny lifeboat and abandoned ship. Not even 2 minutes after doing so a sweltering wave landed on top of our vessel we had just poured out of and tossed it around when at that exact moment the fisherman carried his phantom looking harpoon and demolished the ship.It was reduced to debris in seconds. We immediately were thankful that we were told the tale and vowed to never returned anywhere near this island ever again.
So what do we do now asked the girls?well i think if we keep going south at 5 knots well reach the other island in about 2 hours. As long as it stays calm in the sea we should have no problem at all making our destination.I pulled out our life preservers and we all put them on just in case.I said that back at the office i was concerned with snakes getting inside my tent upon our next camping trip and the heavy rapids i might encounter while in my canoe in the river i wanted to travel on.This is far worse i declared laughing almost.Well said Jules to all of us,the next island has a similar tale to tell. What might that be i asked humbly? Its about headhunters who instead of being on land to hunt go in boats and get you.Its a custom of theirs as its more of a noble challenge as you see them coming that way he said.
Is there any truth to that myth i asked him?No one ever sails around here anymore he said quietly.Well lets go someplace else i hollered. We cant he said.We must meet up with the helicopter and its pilot that was flown over there to meet us.Helicopter i asked! Yes,it was chartered in case we met up with bad weather.I looked at him and said that i have a flare gun ready for any hero headhunters as now im getting mad.We neared the isle and suddenly were met by a small boat with about 8 angry villagers who dressed in animal skins made from wild boars perhaps. They had on face paint and shark tooth necklacesJust then i went pee as
very melodramatic – i found it difficult to take it seriously
not helped by this phrase early on
"Well we our not too far from the next island"
which suggests you have not really read through what you have written yourself
