actually, because the ocean has salt in it, it will help your piercing fight infection.
the salt dries out the infection.
but be careful not to bump your piercing or it will definitely hurt.

You need to wait at least six months, but a year is better.

I live at the beach and all my piercers are surfers too, they told me 2 months (same for swimming in pools or hot tubs).

the ocean is a very healing thing. the problem is what is in your local ocean. take venice beach, for example. it is known to have very poor water quality. i got many piercing while i lived on maui. i either surfed or snorkeled nearly every day from day one. the whole point of the saline soak it to recreate the healing properties of the ocean.
so, i know a lot of piercers say the ocean is not good, but i strongly disagree, if the water quality is good. pools arer bad, though.
you can use a product called Tegaderm. it’s a waterproof bandage that you can find at most drug stores. just make sure it stays on while you’re swimming.
