Did anyone camp on their honeymoon?

August 7th, 2009 | by admin |

We are getting married next month and still can’t decide where to honeymoon. I love camping and he wants to go to the ocean. Does camping work for a honeymoon?

I say do whatever makes you two happy. Love camping? Camp then! Want to stay in a B & B near the ocean? Do that. It’s a time to celebrate the two of you starting a life together as a married couple, so maybe a compromise would be a lovely gesture.

Why not make it an adventure? Try camping a night or two somewhere, find a lovely B & B near the ocean for a night, try to find a cheap motel somewhere for just a night and laugh about ‘humble beginings’, maybe end with a splurge on an expensive hotel suite or maybe just a nice hotel in a city you’ve wanted to stay in but normally wouldn’t spend the money to do. Document the whole trip with pictures, match books, napkins, hotel soap wrappers, etc. and put together a scrap book of sorts to show your family and friends. Everyone will be impressed with your creative honeymoon. And the two of you get to be together and unwind after the big event- the most important part!

One last thing- remember to tell people it’s your honeymoon. You’d be surprised how much people will go out of their way to offer you special "treats" or even just heartfelt congratulations. Plus, you only get one honeymoon so enjoy it!

Congratulations. Here’s to a beautiful life.

I think it could. Why dont you do both? Maybe you can go to the ocean for a little bit and then go camp nearby.

    Have fun and Congrats! :)

sure if you want to go set up a tent somewhere in the middle of nowhere, make all your own meals, and such, but hey think of it this way there probably wont be anyone for miles so you can be newlyweds all day, if ya know what i mean ;-)

sure. it’s about what the two of you want, not what everyone else (in the family) thinks. i have friends who went camping on their honeymoon. they loved it.

We planned to, drove from Canada to Virginia and Tennessee. Carried a tent and sleeping bags in the car. But we never left the hotels. On the honeymoon, she got what she wanted, nice soft beds and no bugs. Come to think of it, I got what I wanted too.

I think it would work, just think, starry skies, just the two of you snuggled up next to a cozy campfire under the moon… not to mention not having to worry about waking the neighbours (wink, wink, nudge, nudge), getting to know each other in close quarters. Below is a good site to visit and I would recommend going to Virgin Islands National Park if you want to camp and he wants to see the ocean. Congrats and good luck.

I think I have a compromise. Just go to a nice hotel in your nicely chosen spot and mount your tent IN the hotel room so you can: (1) express your passion for camping, (2) fulfill your desire to do something original AND (3) have all your well-deserved private moments at the same time!
